Abstract

A smart system means a system endowed with intelligent capabilities such as perception, communication, reasoning, planning, decision making, learning and adaptation… These capabilities rely on various techniques of AI including data processing, knowledge representation, predictive and prospective analysis; they also interact within a life cycle of the system in order to co-build smart solutions and to provide its added-values. Moreover, a smart system is often not monolithic. It involves various entities that may interact, in competitive or cooperative way, to co-build solutions and to offer services. The question addressed here is then, which AI paradigm is suitable to build a smart system w.r.t. to the integration and the orchestration of its intelligent capabilities while ensuring the positive interaction of its entities. In this talk, we will discuss the necessary “full stack of AI” to design a smart system through the case study of a mission system. Then, we will present the Multi-Agent System (MAS) paradigm as a suitable candidate to build the next generation of smart systems. We will illustrate the key concepts of MAS through several projects we developed in our research in the context of both academic and industrial collaborations.

Recent advances in mathematical modelling of rheology and flow of phosphate slurry in pipelines

Joeby Ragpa
Biography
Prof. Mohammed Seaid first graduated from University Complutense of Madrid in Spain then moved to Darmstadt Technische Universitaet in Germany and Kaiserslautern Technische Universitaet in Germany as a postdoctoral, research associate and assistant professor. In 2017 he hold a position of professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Benguerir. He also hold a position of associate professor at School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, University of Durham, UK. His research work has focussed on two areas: (i) modelling free-surface water flows and sediment transport and (ii) development of robust numerical methods for computational hydraulics. Much of his work has been conducted on high-performance computing pltaforms. Together with colleagues in the Fraunhofer Institut Techno und Wirtschaftsmathematik, Kaiserslautern, Germany, he has been developing lattice Boltzmann methods for shallow water equations in tidal flows. The theoretical and computational work recently has focused on the application of lattice Boltzmann methods for deformational problems, which provides a computational framework for examining the performance of lattice Boltzmann methods in spatial domains with moving boundaries. Since taking up his current post at Durham, he has researched into the use and development of adaptive finite volume methods applied particularly to hydraulic engineering problems. He has investigated well-balanced discretizations for shallow water equations on nonflat topography using finite volume techniques. Professor Mohammed Seaid has published more than 100 papers in international journals on computational fluid dynamics and numerical methods for interactions between sediments and water.
Abstract
We present the most recent research carried out at International Water Research Institute in Mohammed VI Polytechnic University by the hydroinformatics team on mathematical modelling and uncertainty quantification of rheology and flow of phosphate slurry in pipelines. Our main work is to develop highly accurate models for a complete numerical simulation of slurry flows in pipelines. This would include three-dimensional simulation of transport in pipelines using non-Newtonian fluids with different constitutive laws for viscosity. We cover design and implementation of highly efficient numerical methods for the rheology, data analysis and uncertainty quantification. The following topics are addressed in more details:
1- Quantification of uncertainties in rheology modelling: This would focus on applying our statistical tools and our stochastic methods to the data collected for rheology and quantify the probabilities in its assessment.
2- Verification of constitutive laws for the slurry rheology: This aim is to embed a variety of constitutive equations in a simple three-dimensional transport problem and compare the numerical results obtained for each of these laws.
3- Inverse problem in slurry pipeline flows: This is an optimization problem for which we assume that piezometric head is given and one tries to find the discharge required for its production. This inverse problem could also be used for estimation of rheology for a given batch.
Preliminary results will be presented for different problems and comparison between different approaches will also be discussed.

Abstract
The current growing social awareness about of environmental problems regarding global climate change, have created a need for more sustainable development technologies and innovations for environment preservation. Ongoing research efforts are focusing on cross-cutting applicability relevant to chemical-to-chemical reactions and processes in order to come up with new breakthrough solutions. Special attention is given to development of efficient adsorbent and catalysts involving non-noble metal material taking advantage of available resources such as biomass and clays minerals with respect to their physicochemical and textural properties. We demonstrated the interesting intrinsic catalytic performances of clays toward complete oxidation of air pollutants such as CO and Volatile Organic Compounds as well as syngas production through dry methane reforming with CO2, considered both as constituent of biogas and major greenhouse gases contained in biogas. Furthermore, we highlighted innovative aspect associated with the easy extrusion of clays based catalyst and related advantages over conventional packed bed reactors allowing not only reducing pressure drop but also preventing hot spots/cool zones within the reactor. This is beneficial with respect to heat transfer in case of energy sensitive reactions and could be of interest with respect to natural gas reforming.

ABSTRACT
The “human” factor is always at the center of all “Sustainable socio-economic development strategies”, which takes human resource development as a key element for rapid and sustainable development. Today, the most decisive resources for the socio-economic development of a nation are no longer natural resources, material resources, financial resources, but human resources, especially high-quality human resources. In the current industrialization and modernization process, especially after COVID -19 pandemic, high quality human resources, science and technology stand out as the three important moves for national development. The main goal is to achieve business results by effectively engaging and leveraging human capital with the right tools, training and coaching. Leveraging human capital through policy development and culture building will make it possible to attract, retain and develop top talent. By managing talent strategically, organizations can build a high performance workplace, encourage a ‘learning’ organization, add value to their employer brand, and improve diversity management. For these reasons, HR professionals all over the world consider talent management to be among their key priorities. Social and economic development programs have recently emphasized sustainability. In this regard, capacity building has been considered of particular importance in highlighting opportunities and priorities for development. Capacity building will enable countries to optimize their investments to attract, train and retain high quality human resources and talent. The investment in learning and development indicates the organization’s commitment to enhance its capacity to deliver and improve. The countries’ capacity building refers to the assistance given to the institutions willing to develop competences and skills, or improve the performances of their personnel and structures. The objective of this proposal is to take a look at the state of capacity building in general by providing the theoretical bases of capacity building in the light of change theories and the multidimensional developments of the human capital theory. The review of the existing literature will make it possible to give an idea of what is being done in the world on this issue.
